Hello to all, I hope everyone is having an awesome day! I wanted to introduce the question of, why did we go into business for ourselves in the first place? This is an interesting and retrospective question to analyze. Everyone who reads this will have their own story that is quite unique in circumstances but an underlying theme will pop up in all stories, and I bet you I know what it is! All of us as entrepreneurs saw that there was a need for our services to assist and help as many people as we can! To live out your passion and to assist the many and not the few is exactly why all of us got into business! You will note that people of this mentality are not even feeling the pinch of a so called slowed down economy. Do you know why? Because we are so busy assisting the universe and all of its being’s in it; that we don’t have the time to concern ourselves with trivial concepts such as scarcity, lack or poverty! That’s just rubbish. All we see is financial and physical abundance and fullfillment. Truly this is the greatest gift we can share when we go into business; this is to share our knowledge, energy and time assisting the many and expect nothing in return just because we love doing what we do. In turn what does the universe do? It rewards us in abundance and prosperity the like’s of which we could have never imagined.
Abundance and prosperity to all,

Recent events have made me ponder as to why certain people are great leaders and others not so much. My career allows me the greatest opportunity of all, of going into other businesses and assessing what it is they are doing that is benficial and non-benficial to their company. I am an accountant/business consultant/independent contractor. This is the greatest job ever! Not only do I get to analyze other people’s businesses; in the process I learn more and more everyday what is good common sense business practices and what is not. We will look strictly at the soft skills for today.
The focus of this blog is management styles. The most common types seen is micro management and macro mangement. Neither is preferrable, it is preferrable to be a manager that is involved in every day to day business that provides a source of leadership but is not above doing the most menial tasks. An attitude of helping the many not the few is necessary; as well as lead by example. In this matter the question is: if you are not willing to put the effort in doing whatever the task requires and be involved, then why should your employees want to put in the effort?
1) This matter requires much attention if you are running a business and not achieveing the goals you are wishing to achieve. If as a manger you take the attitude of menial tasks are beneath you my experince over the last 7 years of my career has shown me this results in micro management based. So much so that managers tend to threaten and bully their staff to do tasks that managers consider to be beneath the overqualified degrees or egos. What you need to do as a respected and valuable leader is lead by example; and support and provide confidence in your team. Also very important… if there is grunt work to be done and you are a manager get involved! No one likes doing grunt work but do not delegate out of sheer attitude of “oh, this is beaneath me” and request the work to be done by staff while you sit in an office somewhere not doing much.
2) Do not micro manage! Micro managing and not believing in your team is demoralizing and condascending to say the least! It is like being in your teens and having parents always looking over you shoulder not trusting you. This is very detrimental as it makes employees not want to excel at and feel passionate about their job. If they were hired based on attitude and qualifications then allow them to prove their qualifications at what they were hired do.
3) Be a calm and level headed manger that instills an attitude of leader of the pack and show love and respect for your co-workers; you will notice that they are more than willing to ablige to complete the daily tasks at hand. Be a compassionate human and an inspiring leader at the same time.
I hope this discussion sheds some important points to light. Until next time happy networking, abundance and prosperity.
Regards,
Saverio

When working for your own business, there are sometimes perks to owning one own’s business. The deductions you will be able to claim in terms of travel, meals and lodging are beneficial and tax deductible. When setting up a business if it is an incorporated entity one may use travel time as a business deduction. The general rule is that as you the employer/owner of your corporation can sign what is known as a T2200 “Declaration of Conditions of Employment ” I have attached the form which can be found on the Revenue Canada website which explains what is to be included. Also this is the link to read up on what is allowable and what is not, http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tg/t4044/t4044-07e.pdf. There are mileage stipulations for allowed travel, but if you meet these requirments you may use these deductions. As always when dealing with any govenrmental agency it is imperative that you keep well detailed records that can be substantiated in the case of an audit arising. If need be, everytime you get a receipt write on the receipt itself where and when the expense occured and for which job it was related to; so you can trace it back to an invoice that was sent out to a customer to relate the expense to cost of earnings in case of audit. This is one of the many blogs that I will be writing about in the following days, if any further clarification is needed, please do not hesitate to contact me.
